Pre-operative Instructions

  1. DO NOT EAT OR DRINK ANYTHING AFTER 12 MIDNIGHT the night before surgery- no midnight snacks, no breakfast, not even a sip of water.  Eating or drinking after midnight could result in a cancellation of your surgery.

  1. (For in-patient only) As a preparation for the surgery, we need you to use a Betadine douche and a Fleet enema the night before your surgery.  (You can buy these over the counter)

  1. The hospital will provide a gown for you, so it is unnecessary to bring one.

  1. If you take any medication on a regular basis such as insulin, heart or blood pressure pills, or Dilantin, DO NOT take them unless you ask your doctor first.  On admission to the Short Stay Center (Day Surgery), please tell the nurses what medication you have or have not taken.

  1. Contact lenses and/or dentures cannot be worn in the operating room.  Please remove them and be sure to bring your container to keep them protected while you are in surgery.  Also, remove all nail polish, toenail polish, makeup and jewelry.

  1. On the day of surgery, ask at the information desk for directions to the Short Stay Center (Day Surgery).  If you will be staying overnight, ask for directions to the Admitting Office.

  1. You must have a responsible adult who is licensed to drive to take you home after surgery.  Please do not bring children under the age of 18 with you.

  1. Please notify your surgeon and your doctor of any changes in your physical condition the night before surgery, such as a cold, sore throat, fever, cough etc.

  1. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to call the office.
