Dr. Van Dell received his undergraduate degree in biology from St. Anslem's College. He then earned his medical degree from the University of Guadalajara in 1974. He completed his obstetrics and gynecology residency training at the University of Buffalo in 1976 and at Bridgeport Hospital in 1980.

Specializing in Obstetrics and Gynecology, Dr Van Dell is certified by the American Board of Obstetrics & Gynecology. He began practicing with OB/GYN of Fairfield County in 1985.
